WHAT IS SHEET & PLATE METAL FABRICATION
The terms sheet and plate are used to describe stock of thin, flat pieces of stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminium, copper, tin, titanium, nickel or brass. Sheet metal is between 0.2mm to 6mm thick. Plate metal is more than 6mm thick.
Metal sheets and plates can be used to make a whole variety of items. They can be pressed, drawn, bent, cut and rolled to create different shapes and patterns. Guillotines, shears, dies, bending breaks and rollers are used to facilitate these processes and to obtain the final shape, changing its properties and function. For example, rolling the ends of a sheet makes the sheet less flexible.
