MIG welding, also known as metal inert gas welding, utilises a constant feed of welding wire to fuse the materials efficiently.

TIG welding is known as tungsten inert gas welding and utilises a hand fed welding rod to weld the two components together.

Both types of welding are methods used in our metal fabrication and welding fabrication services to adhere two separate pieces of metal together. The two separate base metals and the welding wire are melted at the weld spot to create a temporary pool of molten material. The pool then cools and solidifies which adheres the two pieces together at the weld seam.

MIG & TIG WELDING ADVANTAGES

The advantage of MIG welding is that it is a faster and more efficient way to weld, making it suitable for high volume production and larger welding and fabrication projects. MIG welding is also the preferred method for heavy duty welds between thicker metal sheets and plates such as mild steels, stainless steels and aluminium.

The advantage of TIG welding is the superior control and quality of welds. This makes TIG welding the preferred method for intricate welds on thinner metal pieces or when the aesthetic of the weld is important in smaller welding fabrication projects. To get a MIG weld to look like a TIG weld requires further grinding and polishing to obtain a cleaner look.
